Land-Lease Act
This act was passed in March of 1941 after many public and congressional deputes. This act was determined to provide "Britain with aid after the war and urged congress to adopt a plan to end, not sell, arms to Britain." When news of this act got around Germany instantly took advantage and occupied most of Europe and threatened the indication of Great Britain. They did invading and bombing the cities of Great Britain forcing United States to help Britain by passing the "Land-Lease Act" which allowed the United States to provide Britain with arms along with the Soviet Union later in history.

I also think that Congress passed the Lend-Lease Act because they saw that Great Britain was financially struggling to a great extent and that they would have to actually lend weapons to the country in order to aid the Allied cause without actually having to directly join the war. Also, I don't think that Hitler instantly occupied most of Europe and threatened Britain because of the Lend-Lease Act, mostly because the Germans had already controlled a good portion of Europe at this point and had been attacking the British with planes and bombs as part of the Battle of Britain. However, it is plausible that Hitler was fighting this battle in the first place because he knew that Britain was running short on supplies and that they would not be able to survive without international aid. Nonetheless, I do think that the Lend-Lease Act was an extremely controversial and risky move for the US considering that they had passed neutrality acts just a few years before lending weapons to the British due to isolationists wanting to keep the US out of the war, which this act did almost the opposite of (since it caused the Americans to be begin being involved in the war to some extent).
ReplyDeleteThe Lend-Lease Act was a somewhat passive way to get involved in the war without making those who favored neutrality upset. The results of the Lend-Lease Act were somewhat unexpected. It resulted in the Axis powers declaring war on the US.
