If the Japanese had not surrendered after the second Atomic bomb hit Nagasaki, what would the Americans have done to finish the war in Japan? Would they have invaded Japan with the Russians like they were originally planning to do? Or would they have been deterred from invading by the high levels of radiation from the Atomic bombs? If so, would they have made more atomic bombs and continue to drop them on Japan?
I'm not 100% sure, but I do not think that the Americans even had a third bomb ready, and from what I understand, they take quite a lot of time to make. Had Japan not surrendered, I think the Americans would've had to invade Japan, although it would be quite stupid to not surrender in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dylan. I think that the US would have continued to make atomic bombs in order to get Japan to surrender. While many speculate that the atomic bomb was more to impress the Soviet Union, if that is correct then why did the US drop two instead of one? Anyway, if the atomic bomb was more to win the war against Japan then they would have continued to use this strategy and maybe firebombing.
