President Bill Clinton
Bill Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States. Mr. Clinton was apart of the Democratic Party and was considered a "new" Democrat. During his term he had to deal with the Islamic attacks which many believed that he was not handling properly. As the tensions were increasing, the pressure on Bill Clinton only increased with the sexual harassment accusations. Paula Jones, a former Arkansas state employee, sued President Clinton for sexual harassment. President Clinton denied ever sexually harassing her. While the lawsuit opened a major federal case, Monica Lewinsky soon became involved. Bill Clinton was suspected of having an affair with Monica Lewinsky. Mr. Clinton's personal life became very public and he was always under the spotlight. Although it is not illegal for Bill Clinton to have an affair, Monica Lewinsky was involved because of the overall sexual assault accusations. President Clinton never admitted to having an affair or sexually harassing Paula Jones. While he did commit perjury, he only lied to protect his reputation. No one is perfect but he still wanted America to see him as a great man. Due to this crime he was impeached. President Bill Clinton had several issues to deal with during his presidency, but he was still admired by the majority of people. Many viewed the scandalous affair as a humorous event. After all, Hillary Clinton did continue their marriage.

Bill Clinton is a true politician. You can hate him or love him, but he knew how to come out on top regardless of all the scandal surrounding him. What do you think it is about the American people that can still overall approve of politicians with seedy pasts and poor character outside the role of president? What does this show us is a value of general American society?
ReplyDeleteI think the reason why the American people can still approve of politicians with questionable pasts and personal beliefs is because they either support their "seedy" actions based on their own ways of thinking or they just don't care about such issues. In my opinion, most people care more about the political views and policies of legislators and officials than their personal lives because these things don't inherently impact their own lives or national politics. This was especially apparent during the 2016 election when Donald Trump made extremely questionable statements regarding race, sex, and political gossip and Republicans still voted him into office -- it's not that they necessarily supported the statements he made and the things he does in his personal life, it's just that his political views and policies are more important to them than the non-political aspects of his life. Therefore, although it might make Americans seem shallow and culturally immoral to a certain extent, voters in America follow the policies and political promises of candidates more than their personal lives.
